Lauretta Onochie (born 9 July 1955) is a Nigerian administrator, educator, civil servant and cleric.

She is currently the Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media; and has been working in this position since 2016.

Lauretta Onochie has earned multiple academic degrees such as degrees in Primary Education, Business Education, Post-Community Education and Training (PCET), as well as certificates from short-term programs in Humanitarian Response to Conflict and Disasters and the Impact of Climate Change on Health at Harvard University.

Early life

Born on July 9, 1955 to parents from Anioma Local Government Area of ​​Delta State, Lauretta Onochie grew up learning from her guardians and spent most of her formative years in Calabar in Cross River State. She thrived in speaking her mother tongue and was also fluent in her local dialect.

The accomplished scholar had an illustrious childhood with her academic journey seeing her move from state to state in the country. At the age of 18, she left Calabar and headed west to further her studies before moving abroad to further strengthen her academic credentials.

Throughout her childhood, Lauretta Onochie had the opportunity to meet talented educators and was very close to her teachers and lecturers; a move that helped her gain a strong foothold in the professional field.

Education

Lauretta Onochie was quickly admitted to study Primary Education at the University of Calabar after completing her primary and secondary education.

In her quest to further her education, she traveled west to further her studies and got the chance when the University of Benin offered her the opportunity to do so. She graduated with a Bachelor of Business Education from a prestigious Institution and traveled abroad for her post-graduate studies.

While studying at the University of Greenwich, Lauretta Onochie’s extensive academic experience led to her obtaining a postgraduate degree in Post-Compulsory Education and Training (PCET).

She also applied for two separate certificate programs, namely: Humanitarian Response to Conflict and Disaster and Climate Change Impact on Health at Harvard University.

Career

Mrs. Lauretta Onochie began her illustrious career as a lecturer at New City College, Loughton, England. She eventually moved on to other Higher Institutions with numerous recorded lectures under her name.

In 2012, her influential personality paved the way for other development activities; one of which included her partnership with Nigerian journalist and historian Elder Emeka Esogbue, Gloria Adagbon and Emmanuel Nwaokolo to form the Ndi Anioma Group of Nigeria, which initiated the Ndi Anioma Youth Movement. She also attended a Bible college in Calabar and was ordained as a Pastor upon completion of the program.

In the following years, Lauretta Onochie rose through the ranks, working as a Senior Advisor to AfricaFirst until 2016, when she was appointed as Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Social Media.

She is also very active on Twitter and has not hesitated to show her support for the President over the years.
