The Girl in the Picture: Meet Megan Dufresne, Daughter of Suzanne Sevakis

Megan Dufresne, the youngest of Suzanne Sevakis’ three children, was reportedly given up for adoption shortly after birth. In 1989, she was given up for adoption to a New Orleans couple who were unable to have children of their own. There is no information about her biological father.

However, by the time she was born, her mother had married her stepfather and fugitive kidnapper/abuser/federal criminal Franklin Delano Floyd, then known as Tonya and Clarence. They fled to Florida en route to Tulsa.

Michael was there for Suzanne while she put her first child up for adoption. About six weeks before Megan was born, she and Floyd contacted a law firm to put their third child up for adoption. They argued that they did not have the resources to raise a second child.

On the show, Dufresne shared that when she learned her mother’s story, she felt a strange anger, and she is still trying to deal with this emotion.

“No girl should have to go through that,” she said. “From a stranger, let alone someone who is supposed to be her father, a father figure, whoever he is.”

Where is Megan Dufresne now?

Megan Dufresne was adopted by her current parents Dean J DuFresne and Mary B DuFresne. Both are residents of Terrytown, Louisiana, Dean is 64 years old while Mary is 61 years old as of 2022. Meanwhile, Megan lives in Ponchatoula, Louisiana. She also lives in Hammond, Louisiana.

They are currently based in New Orleans, Louisiana. Mary DuFresne contacted Matt Birkbeck in 2005 Matt’s first book A beautiful child was published in 2004. Matt recalls that Megan’s mother Mary contacted him and they kept her identity a secret for many years.

Megan was previously told that her mother had died in a car accident, but she did not discover additional information about her biological mother until 2004 when Matt Birkbeck’s book “A Beautiful Child” was published.

Since then, she has made a few public appearances on the Netflix show The girl in the picture.

According to Matt, Megan attended the dedication of a new headstone for her mother, Suzanne Sevakis. The first headstone reads Tonya Dawn Tadlock. It was there that she met her grandfather, Clifford Sevakis, for the first time.

Additionally, Megan learned about her brother, Michael Anthony Hughes, born in 1988, who was abducted by Floyd on September 12, 1994. Floyd entered Michael’s school in Choctaw, Oklahoma, and kidnapped the child at gunpoint. Floyd also kidnapped Michael’s school principal and tied him to a tree. He was found hours later by workers working in a nearby yard.

In honor of the brother she never met, Megan named her son after him, Michael.

According to journalist Matt Birkbeck, Suzanne was plotting to leave Franklin to save her son, at a time when she was working as a stripper seven days a week.

Additionally, Megan has worked at Southeastern Louisiana University as an admissions specialist. From February 2017 to May 2017, she worked in the Jefferson Parish Public School System as an Adapted Physical Education Teacher. Additionally, she served as a graduate assistant at Southeastern Louisiana University for two years and worked as an Athletic Trainer/Teacher at St. Joseph Academy from 2012 to 2014.

Talking about her education, Megan holds a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology and a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from Southeastern Louisiana University.
