What happened to Ron Ross?

Ron Ross was fired from Sirius XM in March 2023 after 16 years with the company.

Disappointed, the radio host wrote on Twitter on March 7, “Well, I survived a merger, a heart attack, and a global pandemic, but after almost 16 years, it’s over. I was fired from @SiriusXM yesterday in their purge. No more #RonRossMorningShow. Thank you, thank you, thank you for having me on your mornings. Had a good time, didn’t we?”

Obviously this upsets many regular customers.

“@SIRIUSXM I am so sad that you are canceling Ron Ross on Pulse. He is a great DJ and a joy to listen to during my morning commute. My motivation to continue my SiriusXM subscription has dropped to zero. Sadly, greed is killing this company and I don’t want to be a part of it,” one fan wrote.

While another added, “So sad to see this! My morning commute is not the same anymore. Good luck to you.”

But in Sirius XM’s defense, they announced that they would be laying off about 475 people, or about 8% of their total workforce. The layoffs come after advertising dollars began to dry up due to the uncertain economic climate.

Ron Ross has been quiet since his March 7, 2022 tweet, so we don’t know what he’s planning for his next job after Sirius XM. However, with his experience, he could easily land a good job, even if it’s in a more local market. Or, he could launch his own podcast.

Now, speaking of his experience, Ron worked at Sirius XM for nearly 16 years until he was fired in March 2023. He initially joined the program by hosting a national satellite radio/live streaming daily morning show featuring lifestyle stories, interactive games with listeners, celebrity interviews, and hourly news. Then, in 2011, he was promoted to program director responsible for all aspects of the 90s across 9 channels. There, he coordinated playlists, wrote art, conceived and implemented special programming features, created original content like the show Countdown to the Past, and managed the staff.

Prior to joining Sirius XM, Ron worked as a morning show producer at iHeartRadio from April 2001 to November 2006. There, he supported all aspects of a major market, award-winning live daily morning radio show, including writing comedy, contacting guests, and coordinating stuntman appearances on the morning show. He also edited, wrote, and delivered hourly newscasts.

Overall, his skills include Broadcasting, Radio Promotion, Media Relations, Program Management, Writing and Radio Hosting.

Regarding education, Ross graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School and went on to study radio, television and film at the University of Maryland from August 1982 to May 1987.
