Lenny Henry was born on August 29, 1958 in Dudley, United Kingdom. He was raised by his parents, Winston Jervis Henry and Winifred Louise Henry, and grew up with his older brother, Paul Henry.

Lenny Henry’s early years as a comedian were spent performing at working men’s clubs, where he played mostly white characters, such as Frank Spencer sitcom character Some moms do ‘Ave ‘EmHe first appeared on television at the age of 16 when he won a talent show.
