You are watching: Liam Payne’s family break silence on his death: ‘We are heartbroken’
Liam Payne’s family has spoken out for the first time since it was reported that the former One Direction member passed away at the age of 31.
Payne died on October 16, and his family spoke out the next day, October 17, in a statement announcing that they were “heartbroken” by his passing.

They told the BBC: “We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we will remember him for the kind, funny and brave soul he was.”
The family added: “We are supporting each other as best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this terrible time.”
Argentine police confirmed that a 31-year-old man died after falling from the third floor of the Casa Sur hotel in Buenos Aires.
Before the male singer passed away, he was said to have “erratic” acting. TMZ reported that Payne was “behaving strangely” while at the hotel and that hotel staff said that Payne was moving from side to side and stuttering strangely.
Other statements obtained by the outlet claim that Payne smashed his laptop in the hotel lobby before his death and that hotel staff were forced to carry Payne back to his room.

Despite this, Payne was still seen posting to his social media accounts before his death. He was seen posting on Snapchat just before falling off the balcony.
Authorities are currently investigating whether Payne’s death was an accident or not. CasaSur hotel representative said the police are assisting in the investigation.
Payne is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear, whom he had with ex-girlfriend Cheryl Cole in March 2017.
