Early life and education

Lil Nas X was born on April 9, 1999 in Lithia Springs, a small Georgia town southeast of Atlanta. His given name is Mitsubishi Montero. His father, RL Stafford, is a talented gospel singer, while his mother, Shawnita Hathaway, is a homemaker.

He has two brothers, Lamarco Hill and Tramon Hill, two sisters, one of whom is named Bianca Hill, and three half-brothers.

When he was six, his parents divorced and he moved in with his mother and grandmother in the Bankhead Courts housing complex. Three years later, he moved to Austell, Georgia, north of the city, to live with his father, a gospel musician.
