early life
Born in Northern Ireland, Leela Vargan developed an interest in music at an early age and began writing songs before she was a teenager.
Whenever she felt inspired, she would take out a pen and paper and write down the songs that came to her mind. As she got older, it became clearer and clearer that music was the path she was destined to take.
There was an old piano from her grandmother at home. Therefore, she practiced piano and sang covers of her favorite pop songs from a young age. She grew up listening to songs by great artists such as The Beatles, Nina Simone, Elvis Presley, Tame Impala, Haim, and Jay Paul.
She grew up in a rural area, which influenced the style of music she creates. Her songs are known for having elements of sadness. She likes to call it sad pop.

During lockdown, she collaborated with Mahogany to perform live for the Isolation series. In March 2020, she recorded and filmed an a cappella version of the song “Cold”. She worked with the LCV Choir on this project. Her song “Cold” was voted “Best New Pop” by BBC Radio 1 alongside singles by Lady Gaga and Justin Timberlake.
