Luis Enrique began his professional career at local club Sporting de Gijón, where he earned the nickname “Lucho” after his Mexican striker Luis Flores.
He then played for Real Madrid for five seasons before moving to Camp Nou on a free transfer in 1996, becoming a bitter rival of the club.
