Luke Bryan Addresses Backlash Over Beyoncé’s CMA Awards Comments, Criticizes Media’s ‘False Narrative’

Luke Bryan wants everyone to know that there is nothing but love and respect between him and Beyoncé.

On October 6, the “Play It Again” singer went to X to clarify comments he made surrounding Beyoncé and her not being nominated at the 2024 CMA Awards for her album cowboy Carter and its subsequent singles.

“Hey guys, I’m wrapping up my last night of tour tonight and it’s been a blast,” Bryan began his post. I’m very grateful for that.”

“I’m posting tonight based on the ridiculous nature of the headlines I read a few days ago from an interview on the Andy Cohen show I did this week while promoting my album. I feel in my heart that I cannot let the media create a false story. As I read through some of your comments, I just want to say that I encourage you all to listen interviews instead of reading click-bait headlines,” he continued.

He then noted that his tone and intentions were in no way “negative” before praising Beyoncé.

Bryan concluded: “You will hear my tone and my intentions are not negative. I respect Beyoncé and I love the loyalty of her fans. I spend a lot of time supporting other artists . I want everyone to win. Love you.”

Previously, Bryan appeared on SiriusXM’s ‘Andy Cohen Live’ where he spoke about the lack of nominations cowboy Carter and Beyoncé received the 2024 CMA Award.

“But things get a little bit difficult — if you’re going to do country albums, come into our world and country with us a little bit. Like, Beyoncé can do exactly what she She’s probably the biggest star in music. But come to an awards show and high-five us and have fun and mingle with the family that … but country music is a lot about family,” he said.

Bryan was attacked online for his comments as many fans pointed out that Beyoncé tried to break into the country music world in 2016 but received racist comments when she performed at the 2016 show with The Chicks. One audience member recalled on CNN Call Me Country: The Renaissance of Beyoncé & Nashville documentary in which one person even called Beyoncé “that black bitch,” according to Page Six.

To date, Beyoncé has not responded to Bryan’s comments. However her albumcowboy Carter, still goes down in the history books as Beyoncé for becoming the first black woman to top Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart as well as the first black woman to debut at No. 1 on Hot Billboard’s Country Songs with the song “Texas Hold ‘Em”.
