Career
The only thing known about Marcia Harvey’s childhood is that she was born into a poor African-American family. She started working at Saks Fifth Avenue, a department store. A few years later, she met Steve Harvey at a friend’s wedding. In 1980, the two got married after falling in love. At the time, Steve Harvey was an insurance salesman, and in 1982, the couple welcomed twin daughters into the world.
However, Steve Harvey had begun to feel bored with his career at that time and wanted to pursue a career in the entertainment industry, specifically as a stand-up comedian.
They went through a lot of conflict as a result, and it was later revealed that they began living apart starting in 1990. Marcia Harvey’s marriage to Steve Harvey and subsequent divorce were major factors in her rise to fame. She was apparently expecting their third child when things fell apart, although the events leading up to their divorce in 1994 were largely kept secret.
In 1993, Marcia Harvey officially filed for divorce. She was forced to seek legal help after the divorce and Steve Harvey failed to pay alimony and child support. An independent woman, she later launched her own clothing line and found success. She has remained quiet about the specifics of how she managed to not only keep her family together but also ensure the safety and happiness of her children.
She had to work, take care of three young children and maintain a steady job as a single mother. Her three children credit her with inspiring them to achieve great things through her humble personality. Marcia Harvey later established herself as an author with the release of her first book of poetry, Marcia: Eyes to the Soul.
The book is a tribute to her life and her estranged husband and was published in April 2011. Although the book was not widely known, Marcia Harvey went on to publish two more books, Marcia: Poems From The Heart (2011) and Marcia: Thoughts From My Mind (2014).
Personal life
Steve Harvey left Marcia Harvey and their three children to focus on his comedy career. He completely abandoned his family when he first became famous. Needless to say, this put her in the spotlight.
After the divorce was finalized in 1994, the court ordered Steve Harvey to pay Marcia Harvey $5,100 per month in spousal support. However, Steve Harvey did not pay any of it. She was forced to provide the court with an affidavit. Steve Harvey owed her approximately $36,000 after being found guilty of non-payment of support. Later revelations regarding the divorce proceedings also revealed that Steve Harvey had been living with Mary Lee Harvey before his divorce from Marcia Harvey was legally finalized. They remained friendly after the matter was settled.
On August 20, 1982, the couple had twin daughters, Karli Harvey and Brandi Harvey. On April 29, 1991, they welcomed their son Broderick Harvey Jr.; Steve Harvey abandoned them, so she raised the children on her own. She later reportedly married Larry Greene and currently resides in Cleveland. Marcia Harvey has never used social media as she is very private.
