Mariah Carey has addressed her past working relationship with Diddy.
In a new interview, Songbird Supreme opened up about the pair working together on their 1997 No. 1 hit single “Honey.” When asked if the current allegations against him affected her experience with the song, Carey seemed to want to distance herself from the rapper amid the ongoing scandal he’s been embroiled in .
“It’s hard not to when things keep happening and you hear someone’s voice on the recording. You’re like, Hmmm. That’s weird, you know?” Carey told Los Angeles Times.
She then went on to say that “Honey” represented her more than anyone else at the time before saying that Diddy had absolutely nothing to do with the song.
“But honestly, ‘Honey’ represents me more than anyone else and I know that. The other people involved – or maybe the other people we’re talking about – aren’t really involved.” to that,” she added.
“Honey” appeared on Carey’s landmark album, Butterflyand was her third song to debut at number 1, a record for artists at the time. Diddy is listed in the song’s credits both musically as well as receiving a producer credit for the song. It is worth noting that Carey is the sole author of the song.
“Honey” also has a remix featuring Diddy called “Honey (Bad Boy Remix).” The rapper also appeared in the song’s music video.
Diddy has been the subject of many recent allegations. Recently, he allegedly witnessed a bodyguard raping a 17-year-old boy. The accusation follows another recent allegation that Diddy drugged and raped a 10-year-old aspiring rapper in a hotel during an audition.
On October 20, Diddy was hit with another lawsuit accusing him of raping a 13-year-old along with two other celebrities at a VMAs afterparty in New York in September 2000.
Diddy is currently in federal custody without bail in New York and has pleaded not guilty to federal charges including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking and transportation to engage in prostitution.
