Early life
Mario Batali was born on September 19, 1960, in Seattle, Washington, to Marilyn and Armandino Batali, who founded the Seattle restaurant Salumi in 2006. His mother is of French-Canadian descent and his father is of Italian descent.
Batali attended Rutgers University in New Jersey and worked part-time as a chef at a restaurant and bistro called ‘Stuff Yer Face.’ He married Susi Cahn, the daughter of the founders of Coach Inc., in 1994. The couple has two sons.

However, Batali was forced to leave the organization after sexual harassment allegations surfaced in 2017. Eight women accused Batali of sexual misconduct, and several more women have come forward to accuse the chef of similar behavior.
