Democrat Maxwell Frost won Florida’s 10th Congressional District, becoming the first member of Generation Z elected to the United States Congress and quickly becoming an overnight sensation. Not only did people love his journey as a survivor, leader, and advocate, but they were also curious about his personal life.
So, in the rest of this article, we will tell you all about his mother, Maritza Argibay.
Meet Maritza Argibay, Maxwell Frost’s Mother
Maxwell Frost’s family story begins in Cuba, with his grandmother Yeya. She and Maxwell’s biological mother came to Florida from Cuba on Freedom Flights in the early 1960s with just a suitcase and no money. As Maxwell tells it, his grandmother worked in Miami factories for more than 70 hours a week, where she was exploited and forced to accept harsh working conditions to make a living for her family.
But the mother we’re talking about isn’t Maritza Argibay. Instead, she’s the one who gave birth to Maxwell.
According to Maxwell, his birth mother was a victim of the system and was caught up in difficult circumstances as she was caught up in a cycle of drugs, crime and violence while pregnant. She had no access to health care and had never even seen a doctor. So, according to Maxwell, as a mother of seven, she made the difficult decision to put him up for adoption because she did not have the resources to care for and raise another child. That is where Maritza Argibay came in.
She and her husband adopted Maxwell as a newborn and the rest is history.
On Women’s Day, Maxwell once paid tribute to his mother, Maritza, for dedicating her entire career to teaching and mentoring children with special needs. He shared that every day when she came home from work, she would eagerly tell everyone about what had happened at school. “What was special about those stories was that she always referred to her students as her children. For her, it was more than just a job, it was a calling,” he continued, praising his “beautiful” mother.
Maritza, as her son puts it, loved and treated each of her students as if they were her family. So, like him, we also believe the world needs more educators and people like her.
As for Maxwell’s biological mother, she is of Lebanese and Puerto Rican descent, while his father is Haitian.
