Maryam Nawaz warns of drug theft and outsourcing of tests at government hospitals

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said medicines were stolen from government hospitals and people were asked to get tested from outside.

Speaking at the launching ceremony of “Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic” project in Lahore, she said that the entire team deserves congratulations on the launch of the health clinic.

“It is incomprehensible that drugs were stolen. Hospital security is also being outsourced. Security staff took money from patients for hospitalization. It’s incomprehensible,” she said.

The Prime Minister said she has faced new challenges every day since taking office.

“Today I came directly from the Provincial Apex Committee meeting. There is a big threat of infiltration into the border areas of Punjab, which is a big challenge,” she said.

Maryam Nawaz added that “The current poor health facilities for 150 million people in Punjab make it impossible for me to sleep at night. The facilities are not as expected because there are too many problems.”

She said that when she took oath, free medicine provided to people in hospitals during Shahbaz Sharif’s tenure was cut from 90% to 30% during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s tenure , and free cancer treatment was canceled. removed.

Maryam Nawaz said that the tradition of Shahbaz Sharif has been revived and now the number of medicines provided to the people has doubled. She said she personally asked everyone about the medicine when she arrived at the hospital.

“It is a national tragedy that we are not doing any responsible work,” she said. We only try to spend 8 to 2 official hours, if there is time on duty, on the cell phone.”

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that healthcare workers should understand that there is no other job in their lives except serving humanity.

The minister said she has deployed her staff to two or three hospitals in Lahore to review facilities and address complaints.

“Change doesn’t come overnight,” she said. Efforts are being made to improve services. There is a shortage of hospitals and we have started rolling out mobile health clinics to reach 7 million people across the province.”

Maryam Nawaz said free home delivery of medicines has been started. The province is making efforts to provide medicine to 0.1 million cancer, hepatitis and heart disease patients in the province. She also announced that the new cardiovascular hospital in Punjab will provide modern facilities.

She said that during her study visit to China, she learned about modern cancer treatment and bringing this modern treatment to Pakistan was her greatest achievement.

Maryam Nawaz said the construction of Pakistan’s first government hospital for cancer treatment is progressing rapidly. There is no government hospital facility for cardiology in the entire Sargodha region, but work on the Nawaz Sargodha Institute of Cardiology has now begun. She added that there are 2,500 primary health centers in Punjab. This month, 1,250 apartments will be completely refurbished, while 904 apartments are currently underway.
