Matt Duffer was born on February 15, 1984. He grew up in Durham, North Carolina, with his identical twin brother Ross Duffer. They were very close from a young age.
In third grade, he and his brother started filming with a Hi8 camcorder given to them by their parents. He and his brother attended Duke School for Children, a private school in the suburbs.
They then attended Charles E. Jordan High School, a public school in Durham. They eventually moved to Orange, California, to pursue film as a major and graduated in 2007 from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
