Early life

Mayihlome Tshwete was born on 10 December 1982 to Steve Tshwete and Pamela MaMzangwa.

His parents were active in the struggle against Apartheid in South Africa. His father was a member of the African National Congress and he was greatly influenced by his father.

He grew up with two younger brothers, Lindela Tshwete and a younger sister, Yonda Tshwete. His father had a close relationship with Nelson Mandela and both spent time in Robben Island prison during the apartheid era.

After his father died in 2002, Nelson Mandela funded his education. His mother, Pamela Tshwete, is a politician and is currently the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation in South Africa.
