early life
Mayorquin was born in 1994 in Adewales into an artistic family.
His mother, Toyin Adewale, is a veteran Nigerian film actress who has appeared in many Yoruba films. His father, Mr. Adewale, is a film producer and artist.
Mayorkun is the eldest son in the family and has two siblings. His younger brother is Ayo Freeman, who is an A&R (Artists and Repertory) person.
Although born in Osun State, he was a well-educated Lagos boy. His love for music led him to join the church choir. While developing his singing talent, he also learned to play the piano.
He signed with DMW Records the same day he quit his banking job.

Mayorkun, who is skilled at piano, sang a cover of a popular song and posted the video online. The video quickly went viral and caught the attention of Davido. A few weeks later, Davido signed Mayorkun to his newly formed music label DMW.
In 2016, Mayorkun released his first single titled “Eleko” which became a hit within days of its release. The song was so successful that it garnered over 1 million views on YouTube within ten days.
He subsequently released hit singles such as “Sade”, “Yawa”, “Love You Tire”, “Mama” and “Bobo”, all of which were successful.
In November 2018, he released his debut album, “The Mayor of Lagos”. Prior to the release of the album, he organized his first national tour, titled “The Mayor of Lagos Concert”. He traveled to several cities in Nigeria and performed in 35 institutions of higher learning.
Mayorkun has also performed in many shows overseas. He and Davido once performed together at the Wireless Music Festival.
He released hit singles “Geng” and “Of Lagos” in 2020. The songs remained popular for months as they have become street songs.
He collaborated with Davido on the latter’s third studio album. He sang on the hit song “The Best”.
As one of the most influential artists in Nigeria, he has collaborated with famous artists such as Mr Eazi, Yung John, Kizz Daniel, Joeboy, Yonda, Peruzzi, Dremo, T-Classic, The Flowolf, Ichaba and many more.
In December 2020, he was nominated for the 14th Headies Awards Artist of the Year.
