Actor Dennis Garcia talks about the Chicago Police Department

Dennis Garcia plays “Jose Torres” in Chicago PD. He was introduced in season 8, episode 4, titled “Unforgiven,” after Intelligence investigates the murder of police officer Mike Blaine. The investigation then leads them to a woman named Maria, who claims that Mike once protected her from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Jose Torres.

That’s right! Dennis’ character was a murder suspect.

So, after Officer Halstead and Hailey Upton (Tracy Spiridakos) attempt to arrest him, Jose takes a bystander hostage. However, his escape attempt fails and the episode ends with him being arrested and imprisoned for the murder of Officer Blaine.

However, in the next season, Jose is seen wearing a police uniform and working alongside the same detectives who arrested him, meaning the Chicago Police Department has a lot to deal with and the story of how Jose Torres went from criminal to crime fighter.

Especially since Halstead and Upton assured Maria that Jose would be behind bars “for a very long time,” something big must have happened in a relatively short amount of time.

Actor Dennis Garcia’s career

Dennis Garcia began his career in 2004 as Jared in the short film Drag Queen Heist. Two years later, he appeared as “Tijuana Guy” in episode 2.4 of Mind of Mencia (2006).

In 2013, Dennis returned to the small screen as “Trevor” in Jaded the Series, and the following year, he played “Quique” in Barrio Boy (2014).

Finally, in 2017, Dennis landed his first role in the One Chicago universe as “Santiago Mendoza” in the Chicago Justice episode “Lily’s Law.” The following year, he went on to play “Camera” in the Chicago Med episode “This Is Now.”

Additionally, it appears that Dennis once appeared in Chicago PD season 6, episode 1 as a “uniformed cop”.

In addition to film and television, Dennis has produced numerous plays including Teatro Vista, Urban Theatre Company, Raska Theatre Company, Pegasus Theatre Company and Shattered Globe Theatre.

Speaking of his education, Dennis graduated from Columbia College Chicago and continued his studies with Sanford Meisner student John Ruskin at the Ruskin School of Acting in Santa Monica. He also graduated from the South Coast Repertory Conservatory in Costa Mesa.

After completing his studies, Dennis continued working at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble for over 2 years and also held administrative/accounting positions at The Sports Club/LA for over 10 years.

Last we saw him, he was working as a coach/mentor at the Performing Arts Studio.

Fun Fact: Dennis saved the day when Kristina Dalton was “struggling” to find a location for Ferrarelle’s final restaurant photo shoot in 2020. He took them to Lincoln Center and set them up on the perfect “fake date.”
