Ted Lasso season 3 aired on March 15, 2023, and in the second episode, Ambreen Razia’s character “Shandy” was introduced to fans as Keeley’s friend. But she’s not just Keeley’s friend. She’s also an advisor to Keeley’s public relations firm and a glamour model.
“She’s crazy. Funny. Very Essex,” Ambreen describes her character. “Sometimes I’ll say things on set and Jason [Sudeikis] didn’t really understand Essex but he certainly followed suit.”
There’s also another level to Shandy, the actress added, a much more vulnerable side. “She’s also insecure and desperate for her new career to succeed. It’s the difference between having a roof over her head or putting food on the table.”
So, how did Ambreen prepare for the role? Well, Ambreen had a rather unique approach. She re-watched a lot of Season 1 and Season 2 of TOWIE, just to get into the mindset of the ‘Essex girl’. “It was both inspiring and quite fun,” she says.
