Meher Pavri Talks Netflix’s Glamorous

Netflix’s Glamorous premiered on June 22, 2023, and just five minutes into the first episode, Meher Pavri made her appearance. However, Meher’s character is only there to support the main character Marco, played by American singer Miss Benny, a stunning makeup artist with a huge YouTube following.

The show’s official synopsis reads: “Aspiring influencer Marco lands his dream job with a makeup mogul and embarks on an exciting journey of self-discovery amid the chaos of work and the challenges of love.”

True to its name, the film is filled with glitz and glamour, with plenty of romance and drama. However, it is bleakly simplistic in its emphasis on the corporate side of homosexuality today.

Marco is flamboyantly gay. And while it might be interesting to see a character like him lead a show like this, some would argue that there is a fundamental falseness to him. As a YouTuber, Marco brands himself Yass Queen Slay Gurl to his followers, so when we meet him, we don’t really know who we’re meeting. Again, we see this push for gay people to brand themselves and sell themselves as empowering and influential rather than just existing.

But fans aren’t criticizing Marco’s confidence as a gay, gender-nonconforming person, but simply the fact that he’s presented as a brand feels sad and reductive. “Glamorous would have been better off if it had found another way to explore this than a literal brand collaboration between Marco and Madolyn’s Glamorous,” the Independent wrote.

However, most people including Meher are satisfied with the show.
