Basketball player Draya Michele’s wife has a 21-year-old son named Kniko Howard. Many people believed that Gilbert Arenas was Kniko’s father because Michele and Gilbert dated in 2008, but that turned out not to be the case.
To protect her family’s privacy, Draya refrained from responding to the rumors for a while, but she felt compelled to speak out when Gilbert’s reports became untenable. It was wrong to point out that Draya had received child support payments of more than $40,000. She issued a statement because she felt the rumors were disrespectful to her entrepreneurial spirit.
Draya corrected the record in a post she made on Instagram in 2016 (via The Jasmine Brand), however, the profile has since been deleted. She wrote underneath a photo of herself as a young woman, “This is Draya….. At 17, I got pregnant by a man who had been incarcerated for 10 years when I was 7 months pregnant. With the help of my mom, I was able to survive.”
Draya continued: “Now, considering how young and immature I was, in addition to living in a very small town in PA….. There is no way I would have gotten pregnant by some athlete in 2002. If I had, there is no way I would have wasted 7 years of my life working ‘in the club’ because obviously, child support would have been great. I have never received ONE MOMENT of child support in my life and that is fine. I also NEVER tried to say that anyone other than the person my son is named after (yes, he is a child) is the father.”
The caption for the post continued, “My son’s father lives in PA and makes an honest living as a barber… I’ve been silent for too long. I’ve also let people tell ‘my story’ on TV too many times. I’m going to speak my truth….. You speak your own truth and stay motivated by doing so. God bless. Keep the kids away from this for God’s sake.”
Kniko Jr. has a younger half-brother named Jru Scandrick. Jru was born on April 8, 2016, in Burbank, California. “We are so excited to add a sixth member to our family,” Michele told PEOPLE. “He’s a great kid, he’s healthy, and everyone is already smitten with him. His siblings love each other.”
Scandrick and Michele began dating in 2013. The couple broke up several times in public. The former couple split in 2014 due to Scandrick’s infidelity. Socially conscious and outspoken, Draya took to the internet to criticize Orlando for flirting with other women on Instagram.
