Flau’Jae Johnson on Raising a Fucking Star
E!’s Raising a F***ing Star premieres on September 8, 2022, and follows four parents who believe their kids have what it takes to become the next household name. Pretty cool, right? But while the show seems creative, it’s based on Bravo’s 2004 short-lived series Showbiz Moms & Dads.
Now coming to Flau’Jae, she is a talented rapper who received the golden buzzer from Chris Hardwick at America’s Got Talent 2018 for performing her self-composed song “I can’t lose”. Also, with rapper blood running through her veins, Flau’Jae previously showed off her talent at The Rap Game 2016, where she was the youngest in the group.
I guess Flau’Jae is already a star.
However, you can never be too famous. Flau’Jae and her family are now signed on for the first season of Raising a F***ing Star.
Also joining the Brooks family on the show are co-stars — Cool Benson and Kelly Dedman with daughter Daelyanna Benson, Sam Shen with children Chacha and Kennie Shen, and Jessica with daughter Breanna Bunevacz.
Flau’Jae Johnson’s father
Flau’Jae Johnson never got to meet her father, Jason “Camoflauge” Johnson, as he was murdered while Flau’Jae’s mother, Kia Brooks, was pregnant with her.
Rapper Camoflauge (Flau’Jae’s father) was a celebrity in his hometown (Savannah, GA) and released his third album, “Keeping It Real”, in August 2002. The album even debuted at #24 on Billboard’s Top Independent Albums chart, #26 on the Heatseekers chart, and #39 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list.
Sadly, he was shot and killed while walking with his toddler son outside the Pure Pain Records recording studio in Savannah, GA.
After Camoflauge’s death, his friends Master P, Birdman, and Lil Boosie, among others, recognized Flau’jae’s early talent and guided her to become a successful rapper to carry on her father’s legacy.
But in addition to carrying on her father’s legacy, Flau’Jae also confesses that she has learned the importance of leaving her own mark on the world. And her mother, Kia, is here to make sure she does!
Flau’Jae’s mother said her daughter was destined for success, but the internet wasn’t always a kind place. “It was a roller coaster because the internet was full and people were mean to her,” she explained. Still, she wanted Flau’Jae to continue rapping to stay close to her father.
As of 2022, Kia is married to Ameen Brooks (Flau’Jae’s stepfather). And surprisingly, she only told Flau’Jae about her biological father when she was 7.
