Meet Fred Kaseburg, Pepper Schwartz’s Husband

Fred Kaseburg and Pepper Schwartz began their love story in 2006. By 2014, the couple was engaged but decided to live apart. Why? Not because the couple didn’t want to live together, but because figuring out how to live together if they moved in together proved “difficult.”

At the time, Pepper was living with an assistant who helped her organize her life, while Fred was unfamiliar and uncomfortable with having an unrelated person in the household. Plus, throw in Pepper’s three large dogs—”we started to think we should leave them alone; maybe indefinitely,” the MAFS expert said.

The two eventually tied the knot on July 17, 2018, and began a new chapter. Reflecting on their wedding, Pepper shared that they had dinner at Ascend (her favorite restaurant with a view in Seattle) and then went to see Men in Black. “Just the kind of silly fun I was looking for. It was a very satisfying evening,” she added.

Before Fred, Pepper was married to her first husband, Arthur M. Skolnik. And after they split up, while Pepper continued to look for Fred, Arthur married Susanne Loven in 2003.

Sadly, Arthur passed away on February 5, 2020.

Dr. Pepper Schwartz is a renowned author, researcher, and television personality who has dedicated her life to advancing the field of intimacy and sexuality. She holds a BA and MA from the University of Washington and a PhD in Sociology from Yale University.

As of 2022, she serves as AARP’s first “Love and Relationship Expert, Ambassador” and also teaches about aging and sexuality at University of Washington in Seattle.

Although he was not awarded ownership of the shoreline of Lake Washington, he and Keith Holmquist (who each owned a property on either side of the lot) were paid $800,000 by the city of Seattle.

Fred and Keith reportedly claimed the land in 2012 and put up signs in 2015 stating that it was private property. Under a law that went into effect in 1932, the beach actually belongs to them, but for years it was considered public — where many neighborhood kids learned to swim.
