Meet Howard Haysom, Elizabeth Haysom’s Brother

Elizabeth Haysom has five siblings from her parents’ previous marriage. From her mother’s previous marriage, she has two brothers named Howard Haysom and Richard Haysom.

After that heartbreaking incident, Howard spoke publicly about his family, saying, “Mother was a hot-tempered woman, and Pop took that as a cue. [late UK Prime Minister, Winston] Churchill. In 1987, Howard testified that he was unhappy that Elizabeth blamed Jens, as he had been told by their mother that the two had been scheduled to visit that fateful weekend.

“She has lied to me in the past and frankly continues to lie,” Howard said. “I personally am not satisfied with the explanation that her plea offers. I think Elizabeth was in the house at the time of the crime.”

He also testified that he believed Elizabeth was there when her parents were murdered. Howard said his parents’ killer, Jens Soering, “turned himself into a family business of lies, celebrity and crime.”

Elizabeth Haysom, a former student, and her German boyfriend Jens Soering were jailed for their role in the deaths of her parents. She was one of five children of the late artist Nancy Astor Benedict Haysom and steel executive Derek William Reginald Haysom. In 1987, Haysom pleaded guilty to two counts of accessory after the fact to murder.

During Soering’s trial, she testified that she tricked her ex-boyfriend into committing the murder because her parents wanted them to break up. She was sentenced to 90 years in prison, serving 32 of those years at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women in Troy, Virginia, before being released in 2019.

Elizabeth received a 45-year sentence for each murder, to be served consecutively. The state of Virginia had denied 14 previous requests for parole from Elizabeth and her ex-boyfriend. But, in 2019, they were granted parole with the condition that they be deported to Canada and her ex-boyfriend to Germany.
