Twenty years before Nisa’s sudden death, Gemmia passed away. Reflecting on Gemmia’s death, Iyanla shared, “Well, it changes you as a woman, first for the worse and then for the better.”

“God must have really, really trusted me to give me a soul to bring into life and trusted me to have the courage to bring that soul out,” Iyanla added.

• Cause of death of Gemmia Vanzant

Gemmia Vanzant died of a rare form of colon cancer.

In the years leading up to her tragic death, Gemmia kept a diary. An excerpt, as shared by Iyanla, reads, “Father,… I know you have ordained me to do great things.” Iyanla reads. “I even know that some of the things you have planned for me, I will not be able to do in this body. This body is only physical. The greatness you have for me is spiritual. A nature that I can never find in this body.”

According to Iyanla, Gemmia’s journal saved her life. Not only that, Iyanla also considers Gemmia her greatest spiritual teacher.

Gemmia breathed her last on December 25, 2003 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, United States. She was 31 years old at the time.

According to her Find Grave profile, Gemmia was born on May 12, 1972 in Brooklyn, Kings County, New York, United States.

Sadly, there seems to be no information regarding Gemmia’s work and career history. The same goes for her education.

Meet Damon Vanzant, Iyanla Vanzant’s only son

Damon Vanzant is Iyanla’s only son.

Fortunately, as of August 2023, Damon is still alive and appears to be in very good condition.

A native of Brandywine, MD, Damon Vanzant turns 52 in 2022.

If online reports are to be believed, Damon was born in August 1970. In addition to Maryland, he also lives in Chicago, Illinois. Around 2023, he moved to Atlanta, Georgia.
