Meet Linda Lausten, John Ruffo’s wife
Linda Lausten married John Ruffo in May 1980. That was before she decided to go to college. John was building his own computer company at the time. So Linda was proud to be by his side every step of the way. She was then married to him for 19 years before he escaped, leaving her stunned as a “widower” by a husband who wasn’t dead. And that’s when she began to uncover clues about who her husband was.
Rather than turn himself in to serve his 17-and-a-half-year prison sentence, John chose the life of a fugitive. He withdrew $600 from an ATM in Queens, New York, parked his car in a long-term parking lot, rented a Ford Taurus, and disappeared.
Meanwhile, at Linda’s home, all six of her private homes were seized by the government, “mercilessly.” Despite this, she has always maintained her innocence, and the FBI has never accused her of any wrongdoing in the scam or her husband’s escape.
Sources say John never contacted her again.
In the early 2000s, Linda filed for divorce, citing abandonment by her husband.
So, you know, even after the 1996 arrest, Linda trusted John so much that she, along with five other immediate family members, mortgaged their homes to secure a $10 million bail.
Looking back, Linda said she cried every day for a year. In an interview with NBC News, she said she still wants to find him so she can have some closure.

As a result, Linda also moved on, marrying again, Andrew Lausten, a native of Phoenix, Arizona. According to LinkedIn, Linda’s current husband started working as an administrative coordinator for technology at the Center for Court Innovation around 2021. The business major studied marketing at Grand Canyon University at the time.
After getting married, Linda and Andrew welcomed their daughter Natalie into their lives. “You’re all grown up! Happy 19th birthday!”, Andrew’s dad wrote on Facebook to wish his college-age daughter a happy birthday.
