In 2019, 31 naturalized citizens of the United States took the oath of allegiance at the National Archives Rotunda in Washington, DC. In Justice Tanya Chutkan’s closing remarks, she shared a glimpse of her own journey to citizenship after leaving her native Jamaica and mentioned her sister.

“I know this is a special day for you and your family,” Tanya said. When I say I know it, I really know it, because I am also an immigrant. I remember this day very clearly. In fact, my sister became a citizen right here in the Rotunda many years ago. I know this is a special day and I know how long and hard you have worked to get to this day.”

Tanya’s younger sister is named Robynne Chutkan, a highly respected personality in her field.

When Tanya was nominated by former President Barack Obama to be district judge of the District of Columbia, she also mentioned her sister and husband. “I want to thank you for coming here today with me, my sister, Dr. Robynne Chutkan, who is here, and with her husband, Eric Mann, who is from the Department of Homeland Security,” Tanya said.

Born to Winston and Noelle Chutkan, Robynne is one of three children. Robynne and Tanya also have an older brother named Dr. Norman Chutkan. Norman is an orthopedic spine surgery specialist in Phoenix, AZ and has over 32 years of experience in the medical field.

Prior to joining MITER, Eric had a distinguished career as a Special Agent with the Naval Criminal Investigative Service and the Department of Homeland Security, where he led the Counterterrorism, Counterintelligence, and Insider threats. Furthermore, he also leads vulnerability assessments at all DHS National Laboratories and Data Centers.

Dr. Robynne Chutkan holds a bachelor’s degree from Yale University and a medical degree from Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, where she also served as chief resident and completed her internship and residency mine. Robynne has also worked as a medical consultant and on-air personality for Discovery Healthcare Channel. Dr Chutkan, an avid squash player, runner and yoga practitioner, is passionate about bringing more dirt, sweat and vegetables into people’s lives.
