Who are Tim Ballard’s parents?

Tim Ballard, son of Melanie and Dennis Ballard, is a real-life anti-human trafficking activist. He was portrayed by actor Jim Caviezel in Sound of Freedom.

OUR’s founder and president, Tim, served as a special agent with the Department of Homeland Security for 12 years. He began trying to free children from slavery and sexual exploitation while working for Homeland. At that time, the US government had just begun to establish its first anti-trafficking teams.

He would pose as a pedophile or child smuggler to infiltrate human trafficking groups and disrupt them as an undercover agent. As a result, over the course of ten years, many of these organizations were successfully disbanded.

Given the darkness and cruelty of crimes related to child exploitation and trafficking, it is understandable that Tim was initially hesitant to work in such groups specializing in child trafficking. He said to himself, “I know it exists, but I don’t want to see it.”

Tim believed that more could be done in this fight if he founded a non-profit organization despite his ten years of saving children at the Department of Homeland Security. He realized that this effort could be significantly advanced and many more children could be saved by establishing a non-profit organization in cooperation with the government.

Tim left his government position in 2013 and to continue his work, he founded the private, nonprofit company Operation Underground Railroad a month later.

In September 2019, Tim shared on his IG: “Okay, it’s time to confess! I completely missed my mom’s birthday 😬😢 but I got the chance to make it up to her in a big way!
