Early life and education
Michael Dapaah, commonly known as Big Shaq, was born on 10 August 1991. At 33 years old, he was born and raised in Croydon, South London, to first-generation Ghanaian immigrants.
When he was young, his parents wanted him to study science and become a medical doctor. However, Michael had a different vision. He was never interested in becoming a medical doctor. Instead, he directed his energy and focus into comedy and music.
He has a father named Joseph Dapaah but his mother’s name is not revealed in the media.
Michael ‘Big Shaq’ Dapaah spent part of his childhood in South Africa. He is also an ex-convict and served some time in a South African prison.
It is believed that he studied film, acting and theatre at Brunel University, and he also took a course at the National Youth Theatre in London.

Career
Michael ‘Big Shaq’ Dapaah started his professional career by hosting several social gatherings in the British African community for one of his comedy shows called Meet the Adebanjos, which revolved around a Nigerian family living in London.
In May 2017, Michael ‘Big Shaq’ Dapaah, along with his friend known only as Marv Brown, launched a mock documentary series on YouTube called SWIL (Somewhere in London).
The documentary recorded over 1 million views in the first fake documentary series in a short time. Michael ‘Big Shaq’ Dapaah created several characters named MC Quakez and Big Shaq in a series. Then, in 2020, Michael Dapaah began appearing in a fitness show called “Belly Must Go”.
Michael ‘Big Shaq’ Dapaah saw a rapid rise in fame and popularity after his debut on Charlie Sloth’s BBC Radio 1Xtra show titled “Fire in the Booth”. His popularity grew even further after he released one of his humorous rap songs titled “Man’s Not Hot”, which was released on 22 September 2017.
