Early life and education
Michael Voss, 48, was born on 7 July 1975 in Traralgon, Victoria, to Sandra and Garry Voss.
He spent his childhood with his younger brother Brett in Orbost until the age of 11, when his family moved to Beenleigh, a northern suburb of the Gold Coast.
Voss attended Trinity College in Queensland during his high school years.
From an early age he demonstrated exceptional footballing skills and made his first team debut for Morningside in the QAFL at the age of 15.
Voss’ talent continued to shine and he was quickly recognised when he won his first Hunter Harrison Medal in a representative match at the age of 16.

Career
Michael Voss began his professional AFL career with the Brisbane Bears in 1992. Despite his small stature, he quickly established himself as one of the most successful players in the league.
In 1996, he shared the Brownlow Medal with James Hird, the game’s highest individual honour.
Following the merger of the Brisbane Bears and Fitzroy Football Club, Voss became the first co-captain of the newly formed Brisbane Lions in 1997.
Under his leadership, the Lions won three consecutive championships from 2001 to 2003.
Voss’ performance at the 2002 Finals demonstrated his courage, skill and leadership, narrowly missing out on winning the Norm Smith Medal.
After a successful playing career, Voss retired in 2006 with three premierships, the Brownlow Medal and induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
