She attended St. Nicholas School for Girls, Dunman High School and Victoria Junior College, majoring in drama. Her drama teacher recommended her to study for a year at Bates College, a famous liberal arts college in Maine, USA. She later entered the National University of Singapore for further studies.
Michelle Chong is a family of three, with two elder sisters, Christina Chong and Shui Chong. Her mother is not well known now, while her father is Steven Papa Chong.
