Philip Andre “Mickey” Rooker, Jr. was born on September 16, 1952, in Schenectady, New York, to Annette and Philip Andre Rooker I.
His mother married a police officer named Eugene Addis and moved to South Florida with her children after she separated from her ex-husband.

After temporarily retiring from boxing, Mickey Rourke starred in a friend’s play, Death Watch, which sparked his interest in acting. So he borrowed $400 from his sister and moved to New York to study acting with Sandra Seacart, a teacher at the Actors Studio. His first audition was the studio’s “most exciting audition in 30 years,” and he was chosen.
Mickey Rourke began his acting career in television series and made his feature film debut in a small role in Steven Spielberg’s 1941. Later, in 1980, he appeared in the film Fade to Black.
