early life
Mike Afolarin was born on September 1, 1993 to Mr. and Mrs. Afolarin. He was born at a public health center in Lagos Mainland. His parents registered Mike’s birth name as Michael Oladapo Afolarin.
Although Mike Afolarin was born in Lagos, he spent the first seven years of his life at his grandparents’ home in Ibadan, Oyo State. After the age of seven, he moved back from the ancient city of Ibadan to Lagos State to live with his parents.
Mike Afolarin comes from a middle-class family and grew up in the mainland area of Lagos. His parents and grandparents raised him in a Christian environment. Mike Afolarin’s acting career began when he performed in a school production of a play. The play, titled “The Magic Hour”, was staged in 2013 and gave him his first acting experience. After performing in the play, he developed a keen interest in the Nigerian showbiz industry and began performing in more plays.
Mike Afolarin furthered his love for storytelling by taking up filmmaking. He decided to become a filmmaker and directed two short films – Interview Stories and Peace. He has worked as an assistant producer, aerial photographer and set designer on a number of projects. Notable mentions include Ajuwaya and Couple Of Days. He was the Assistant Director (AD) on the short film The Third Rule.
