In 1983, he transferred to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and became the county’s first criminal investigator.
His performance in this position led to his election as Polk County Sheriff, a position he held from 1993 to 2004.
In addition to his law enforcement duties, Parson ventured into entrepreneurship, purchasing and operating three local gas stations under the name “Mike.”
Parson’s political career began in 2004, when he was first elected to represent District 133 of the Missouri House of Representatives. He was re-elected in 2006 and 2008, during which time he served as chairman of the House Rules Committee.
In 2016, Parson initially announced his candidacy for governor, but ultimately chose to run for lieutenant governor and successfully defeated his Republican primary opponent and the Democratic candidate in the general election.
Parson was sworn in as Missouri’s 57th governor following the resignation of Gov. Eric Greitens in 2018 and has held the position since.
During his political career, Parson has supported Republican presidential candidates, including Mitt Romney in 2012 and Donald Trump in 2016 and 2020.
