Early life
Mira Katherine Sorvino was born on September 28, 1967, in Manhattan, New York City. Her parents are Lorraine Ruth Davis, a former actress and drama therapist for Alzheimer’s patients, and Paul Sorvino, an actor and film director.
Her father died on July 25, 2022. Sorvino has two siblings, Michael and Amanda. Sorvino grew up in Tenafly, New Jersey. She wrote and performed in backyard plays with her friend Hope Davis and in theater programs at the Dwight-Englewood School.
Growing up, her mother encouraged her to pursue social activism as she also participated in the March on Washington as a child. In 1989, she received a magna cum laude degree in East Asian studies from Harvard University.

Sorvino began her acting career at a very young age. She moved to New York City to pursue her acting career, where she worked odd jobs at Tribeca, a production company founded by famous actor Robert De Niro.
She has starred in a variety of films ranging from comedy to thriller to action. She first appeared on television in a small role on Law & Order in 1990. In 1993, she made her acting debut and served as an associate producer on Amongst Friends.
In 1996, she had a notable role in Mighty Aphrodite and the Buccaneers, a BBC miniseries based on the novel by Edith Wharton. She later appeared in the films Norma Jean & Marilyn (1996) and Mimic (1997).
She also starred in Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion (1997), The Replacement Killers (1998), and Summer of Sam (1999). Mira produced the comedies Lisa Picard Is Famous (2000) and The Great Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan.
