Early Life & Education
Mitchell Elegbe was born on November 14, 1973. At the age of 50, he was born and raised in Benin City, the capital of Edo state.
Mitchell Elegbe is the Managing Director and CEO of Interswitch, an integrated payments and transactions company in Nigeria. He graduated from the University of Benin with a degree in Electrical Engineering.
He previously worked at Schlumberger Wireline and testing and Telnet, an IT engineering and consulting company, before founding Interswitch Group in 2002. He is currently the Group’s CEO and Managing Director.
In 2012, Mitchell Elegbe received the West Africa Business Leadership Award from CNBC Africa Business Leadership Awards (AABLA).
He received the Harvard Business School Association (Nigeria) Leadership Award in the General Management category in 2015 and he is the winner of the Ernst and Young Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Mitchell Elegbe is an African Bishop Desmond Tutu.

Mitchell Elegbe is happily married to a woman identified as Mercy Elegbe. They gave birth to three children, although TheCityCeleb has not yet confirmed their names and identities.
Career
Before founding Interswitch Group in 2002, Mitchell Elegbe worked at Schlumberger Wireline and testing and Telnet, an IT engineering and consulting company. He is currently the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Interswitch was founded four years after his NYSC Service Year.
Telnet, a Nigerian telecommunications company, recruited him. His first encounter with an ATM was in Scotland (at that time, there were no ATMs in Nigeria) when it accepted his card.
Mitchell Elegbe came up with the idea of developing a system architecture that would enable electronic payments in Nigeria while working on a project to install SWIFT.
