Early life
Monwabisi Grootboom, commonly known as Mo, was born and raised in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. He grew up with a very creative mindset.
His parents were humorous and hospitable to both family and friends. He became very cheerful and outgoing.
Phindile Zungu Grootboom, also known as Phindi, was born to South African parents. As a child, Phindi celebrated her future and worked hard to stand out among her peers.
Education
Mo and Phindi were both called scholars when they were in school.
Mo completed his secondary education and obtained a degree in Public Relations in 1998 from the University of Port Elizabeth, while Phindi graduated from the same University with very commendable grades.
Career
Before becoming relationship experts, Mo and Phindi were successful in many other top professions.
Mo was previously the Director of Arts and Culture for the City of Durban (eThekwini City); he served there for nine years before resigning in 2012. He is also the founder of stand-up comedy shows Zulu Comedy and Xhosa Comedy, and serves as Executive Producer for both shows.
He is also a highly regarded Board member and Chairman of the KwaZulu-Natal United Music Industry, a music industry development agency within the KZN Department of Economic Development and Tourism.
Phindi has worked as a regional sales manager for four radio stations, namely East Coast Radio, Vuma103 FM, POWER 987 and Capricorn FM for a period of 14 years. She also worked as a regional sales manager for Sub-Saharan Africa for a UK-based radio company.
After getting married, they became very concerned about the difficulties that couples face on a daily basis. Their decision to become relationship consultants was a result of persuasion from friends and family members who found their advice very helpful.
Mo and Phindi’s book ‘Love is not for cowards’ became a bestseller upon its release.

Their expertise in Relationship and Marriage Coaching started over 8 years ago. Their show, ‘For Better or Worse with Mo and Phindi’ airs on Mzansi Magic.
The program is designed to provide marriage counseling information and relationship tips to married couples and those in relationships.
They also own a non-profit organization, ‘Mo and Phindi Academy’, which aims to restore hope to fragile marriages and unstable relationships.
The couple recently started producing content for their TV channel, Mo and Phindi TV.
