Early Life & Education

Sir Mo Farah, born Hussein Abdi Kahin, was born on March 23, 1983, in Gabiley, Somali Democratic Republic.

At the age of four, his father tragically lost his life in the Isaaq genocide.

After this devastating event, Farah was separated from her mother and lived for several years in Mogadishu as a child.

At the age of nine, he was illegally trafficked to the UK via Djibouti, where he was forced to work as a domestic worker under a different name.

Farah eventually obtained British citizenship in July 2000 and adopted Mohamed Farah. His physical education teacher first discovered his sporting talent, Alan Watkinson.
