STABILITY

  • This update contains several fixes to reduce the number of known crashes. We continue to prioritize increased stability and crash fixes across all platforms.
  • Studio teams have made meaningful progress in deploying several server-related fixes and upgrades over the last few weeks. We have seen significant performance improvement in several areas of concern including crashes. We remain committed to tracking and pursuing these issues and will continue to share progress.

Nikto

  • The former FSB deep-cover agent was first spotted in Modern Warfare® (2019), using his menacing signature black mask to cover the disfiguration of his face caused by Mr. Z. A methodical and calculated soldier, Nikto is a natural-born leader who appears to fear nothing, with next to no gaps in his skill set as the ultimate soldier of fortune.

Ana Vega

  • The daughter of paramedics and Army reservists with family roots in Cuba, Ana Vega never had the opportunity to get to know her parents. Both were killed during rescue operations in the early days of the Urzikstan conflict. The Gold Star child followed in their footsteps in attempt to reconnect with her fallen parents, graduating with top honors from the United States Military Academy and enlisting in the Army’s Combat Medic Specialist Training Program (CMSTP). Proving her exemplary proficiency in combat and as a medic, she eventually caught the attention of her commanding officer, who fast-tracked her to a position on a prestigious Special Forces unit with the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Weapon Balancing

EVENTS

  • NEW: Assault on Vondel
    • Your mission is to fight back against Nikto’s clandestine army, and reclaim the city in our seasonal event. The Assault on Vondel begins at the launch of Season 04 and goes through July 7. Earn rewards through two types of challenges during the event:
      • Community Challenges: All Players must work together to gather medals through classic challenges, unlocking gameplay rewards such as the Taxi Boat and Trams,  Reinforcement Flare Field Upgrade, the Favorite Supply Box and a brand new Tonfa melee Weapon.
      • Mastery Challenges: Individual challenges that are directly tied to a cosmetic reward while also contributing to the Community Challenge. The most efficient way to get all cosmetic rewards is to land on Vondel, but playing across the game is also supported

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, released in 2009, is a first-person shooter game developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision. It serves as the direct sequel to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and is the sixth installment in the Call of Duty series. The game was made available for Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 platforms, with a separate version for the Nintendo DS called Modern Warfare: Mobilized. A version for OS X was released in 2014, and the Xbox 360 version became backward compatible for Xbox One in 2018.

The game’s campaign centers around Task Force 141, an international special forces unit led by Captain Soap MacTavish. They are tasked with pursuing Vladimir Makarov, the leader of the Russian Ultranationalist party, while also supporting the U.S. Army Rangers in defending Washington, D.C. from a Russian invasion. The campaign allows players to assume the roles of Sergeant Gary “Roach” Sanderson and Private James Ramirez, with Captain MacTavish becoming playable later on. Modern Warfare 2 features an extensive multiplayer mode with new gameplay elements and modes.

Development of the game started in 2008 under the working title “Call of Duty 6.” It utilizes the IW 4.0 engine, an enhanced version of the IW 3.0 engine from Call of Duty 4. The official announcement came in February 2009, accompanied by teaser trailers and a full reveal trailer.

A sequel, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, concluded the original Modern Warfare storyline in 2011. In March 2020, a remastered version of Modern Warfare 2’s campaign, titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered, was released for PlayStation 4, followed by releases for Windows and Xbox One in April 2020.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a fast-paced first-person shooter game where players engage in intense gunfights against enemy combatants. The player controls a soldier with various actions available, including jumping, sprinting, crouching, going prone, and aiming down sights. 

Taking damage is indicated by blood splatters on the heads-up display (HUD), and players can recover health by taking cover. The HUD also provides information like a compass, mini-map, and ammunition count. The game offers a range of traditional guns with attachments like suppressors and heartbeat sensors. Players can use grenades, flashbangs, and knives for combat, as well as special equipment like night vision goggles.

The game features three game modes: Campaign, Spec Ops, and Multiplayer. The Campaign is a single-player mode with interconnected levels and objectives to fulfill. If the player dies, they respawn at the nearest checkpoint. Spec Ops mode provides additional levels that can be played individually or cooperatively, with specific challenges and difficulty tiers.

Multiplayer mode allows players to compete against each other in team-based and deathmatch-based game types, with unique strategies required to achieve the objectives. Killstreaks and deathstreaks offer tactical advantages or balance the game for players.
