Hum Entertainment’s TV series Mohabbat Youn Bhi Hoti Sea is a refreshing departure from the typical family dramas revolving around ‘saas bahu‘ rivalry, differences between husband and wife and love affairs.
Written by Sarah Majeed and directed by Saife Hassan, the story revolves around a family living in Dubai, enjoying a lavish lifestyle but disconnected from each other.
Ahsan Khan plays the role of a workaholic husband who is so engrossed in work that he neglects his family. His wife, played by the always talented Saba Qamar, struggles as a stay-at-home mother, raising two screen-addicted children.
Their monotonous life changes when Bushra Ansari, their bubbly grandmother, visits them in Dubai, to explore the glitz and glamor of the city known as the most entertaining city in the world.
From now on, their lives take a new turn from the virtual world to the real world. The family begins spending quality time together when they go on a tour of Dubai, making the most of their time outside instead of staying inside with their devices and gadgets.

Staying away from storylines that portray mothers-in-law in a demonic light, the drama presents this role as approachable and sympathetic. Bushra Ansari is therefore not a typical mother-in-law, instead, she is an understanding mother who realizes that her daughter-in-law (Saba Qamar) is lonely and wishes her husband to spend quality time with her. .
The film focuses on the important role grandparents play in a child’s development, a perspective often overlooked in modern dramas that show them berating their daughters-in-law or being treated disrespectfully when just living under one roof. The two extreme views, although reasonable, are not the only ones that exist, but there are also families who value the importance of family relationships.
While conveying a strong message about family connections and how technology has separated us from our loved ones, the TV series overemphasizes Dubai’s stunning scenery, with its limited voice, sometimes making it sound like an advertising package for the city.
That said, it beautifully showcases the city’s famous landmarks, creating a captivating experience for those familiar with or interested in exploring the Golden City.
“Mohabbat Youn Bhi Hoti Hai” is a captivating combination of humor, emotion and introspection. It encourages audiences to reassess their priorities, cherish family relationships, and detach from digital distractions. Despite some minor shortcomings, it’s definitely worth a watch for those looking for an enjoyable family film.
