Monalisa Chinda was born on September 13, 1974 in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria to Ikwerre parents.

She is the eldest of two sons and four daughters.
Monalisa Chinda attended the General Army Academy (GRA) for primary school and then the Archdeacon Crowther Memorial Girls School in Elerenwo. Both schools are located in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
She holds a degree in Theatre Arts from the University of Port Harcourt.

Monalisa Chinda’s first major film was Pregnant Virgin in 1996, and then, after graduating in 2000, she did Outlaws and has since done many other films.
In 2007, she began her career in the TV series Heaven’s Gate, which launched her stardom. In 2011, she made her debut as an executive producer on the Royal Academy Film Kiss & Tell, produced by Emem Isong and Desmond Elliot.
In 2012, Monalisa Chinda became one of the first four Nigerian film actors to appear on the cover of Hollywood Weekly. In November 2014, the actress stepped out of the entertainment industry and hosted her first talk show, You and Me with Monalisa.
Monalisa Chinda is involved in a lot of charity work. She has a column (Monalisa Code) in the Saturday edition of The Sun, writing about social issues and relationships. She is an advisor to the Royal College of Art, a media school known for nurturing emerging acting, directing and screenwriting talent.
