Biography

Oluwatosin Ajibade (born 19 July 1991), popularly known by his stage name Mr. Eazi, is a talented Nigerian artist and businessman.

He was a pioneer of Banku music, a sound he described as a blend of Nigerian chords and Ghanaian Highlife music.

Mr. Eazi left Nigeria and moved to Kumasi, Ghana, in 2008.

While studying at KNUST, he was in charge of scheduling talented young artists to perform at university parties.

He revealed that his passion for music started after recording a verse in ‘My Life’, a song that received positive feedback and was trending at KNUST.

The young Nigerian artist then released his debut mixtape titled About To Blow in 2013.

He gained his first international audience with the release of his hit song Skin Tight while he was signed by Wizkid to Starboy Entertainment.

Early life and career

Mr. Eazi is originally from Port Harcourt, his birthplace and also Nigeria’s largest city in Rivers State, Nigeria.

The young Nigerian talent comes from a family of entrepreneurs, his mother owns a small business, while his father is a pilot who later founded his own consulting firm. Eazi attended primary and secondary school in Lagos, Nigeria before moving to Accra, Ghana to continue his studies at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST).

Mr. Eazi started recording music at KNUST, he often joined in singing backup and one of the songs titled My Life dominated the KNUST campus.

Mr. Eazi also founded a music promotion and party booking service company at KNUST, which he named Swagger Entertainment.

Swagger Entertainment is the platform Mr. Eazi uses to book performances, artists, and promote music and trending events happening on the KNUST campus.

At the age of 23, he returned to his home country of Nigeria and founded an e-commerce platform.

In 2014, Eazi quit his party/event promotion business after one of the artists failed to show up to a big party.

In 2016, GMA snubbed Mr. Eazi in the Ghana Music Awards by not nominating him for Ghanaian-specific categories, according to Quaye’s statement, Mr. Eazi was not selected because of his nationality, Quaye also stated that Mr. Eazi was only eligible to compete in the African Artiste of the Year category, but the show’s organizers did not give Mr. Eazi a chance because they felt he was not as notable as the other nominees in that category.

On January 11, 2017, Mr. Eazi received backlash from Nigerians when the artist claimed that Ghanaian music had a major influence on Nigerian music.

On January 12, 2017. Mr. Eazi apologized to Nigerians for his statement.

Following his performance at the 2016 Ghana Music Awards, Wizkid announced that he had signed Mr. Eazi to his record label, Starboy Entertainment. Although Mr. Eazi later revealed that he was never officially signed to the Starboy label, but rather it was a business deal.
