‘My hotel is my temporary home’

Madison Beer has been vocal about the importance of privacy during her ongoing tour of Asia and Australia, asking fans to respect her personal space, especially at the hotels where she is staying.

On Wednesday, the singer-songwriter took to social media to explain her discomfort with taking photos with fans at the hotel, which she considers her temporary home while on tour.

“[H]elllloooo just coming in here because I see some people are confused as to why I refuse to take pictures etc at the hotel where I stay,” the 25-year-old artist wrote in a now-expired Instagram Story, as quoted by People. “While on tour, the hotel is essentially my temporary home and I have the right to some private time just like anyone else…”

Beer also cited safety concerns as a key reason for her stance, saying, “[I] I also generally refuse to take photos etc in my hotel as that also reveals the location to many other people and unfortunately can put me in danger. [H]I understand and respect that! I love you.”

Beer’s request for privacy comes at a time when other artists, like Chappell Roan, are also speaking out about the pressures and dangers that come with fame.

Roan, 26, made headlines earlier this month for criticizing what she described as “creepy behavior” from some fans. In a TikTok video shared on August 19, the “Good Luck, Babe!” singer expressed her frustration that celebrity harassment and stalking have become normalized.

“I don’t care that abuse and harassment, stalking, whatever, is normal for famous or semi-famous people,” Roan said. “That doesn’t make it okay. That doesn’t make it normal. That doesn’t mean I want it. That doesn’t mean I enjoy it.”

Roan elaborated further in another TikTok video, questioning whether fans would treat “a random woman on the street” the way they would treat celebrities — by yelling, harassing, and making inappropriate demands.

Roan’s steadfast stance on setting boundaries was reiterated in a later Instagram message, when she wrote, “For the past 10 years I have been tirelessly building my project and it’s time for me to draw the line and set boundaries… I do not accept any form of harassment because I chose this path, and I don’t deserve it.”

Beer is currently on her “The Encore” tour, with stops in Asia and Australia. The tour kicked off in Singapore on August 22 and will conclude in Melbourne on September 2.
