Early life and education
Najib Razak, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, was born on 23 July 1953 in Kuala Lipis, Pahang.
He was raised by his parents Abdul Razak Hussein and Rahah Noah, along with four siblings Nazir Razak, Johari Razak, Nizam Razak and Nazim Razak.
He attended St. John’s Academy in Kuala Lumpur before continuing his studies at Malvern College in Worcestershire, England.
He then went on to further study at the University of Nottingham and obtained a BA in industrial economics in 1974.
Career
Razak, who had a strong passion for politics from an early age, began his political journey and became the youngest Deputy Minister at the age of 25.
Meanwhile, a seasoned politician, Najib has held several important cabinet positions in his illustrious career, including Minister of Defense, Education and Finance.
Najib has won significant popular support thanks to his dedication to economic reform and prioritizing infrastructure development.
In 2009, Najib assumed the role of Prime Minister, making grand promises to boost economic prosperity and ensure political stability in the country.
To achieve these goals, he undertook a number of initiatives, one of which was the establishment of the sovereign wealth fund 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB).
Unfortunately, the fund soon became the center of a massive corruption scandal that rocked the country, with allegations that billions of dollars were improperly diverted from the fund.
