Early life and education
Nancy Kacungira was born on October 11, 1986 in Tanzania. She was born to his parents, whose father is Clifford Kacungira, but her mother’s identity is unknown.
She has an older sister named Seanice Kacungira. Kacungira began studying at a missionary school in Dodoma, Tanzania. She then moved to Uganda for her O’ and A levels, studying at Namasagali Boarding School and Kibuli High School.
From 2003 to 2006, Kacungira enrolled at Makerere University, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Design and Visual Communication with First Class Honours.
She then pursued a Master of Arts in Media and Communication Studies at the University of Leeds from 2008 to 2010, graduating with honours. Although Kacungira’s religion is unknown, her ethnicity is Ugandan, as both her parents are from Uganda.
Career
Nancy Kacungira began her media career as a radio host while still a university student. By the time she completed her first-class degree, she had progressed from trainee to Deputy Program Director at Power FM, a Christian radio station in Kampala, Uganda.
In 2010, Kacungira co-founded Blu Flamingo, a digital media management company, with her sister, Seanice. She then moved from radio to television, becoming a news anchor at NTV Uganda from 2012 to 2013. Kacungira then moved to Kenya, where she worked as a social media editor for KTN News Kenya at the end of 2013.
While working at KTN News Kenya in 2015, Kacungira applied for and won the prestigious Komla Dumor Award, which allowed her to undergo three months of training at the BBC. After returning to KTN News Kenya, she was eventually hired by the BBC, where she presented programs such as Focus on Africa, World News Today and In Business Africa.
In 2016, Kacungira was chosen as one of two moderators of the Uganda presidential debate alongside BBC presenter Alan Kasujja. By 2020, she had become the main presenter for the BBC News Channel and BBC World News, often reporting on the second half of BBC News at 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays and on alternate Sundays.
Most recently, following the merger of BBC World News and BBC News in April 2023, Kacungira became one of the main presenters and reporters for the new channel.
She continues to present leading shows such as The Daily Global with Nancy Kacungira and The Context. She also covered major news events and political stories, including the phone hacking case involving Prince Harry and the Privileges Committee investigation into Boris Johnson.
