Neil Lane was born in 1960 in Los Angeles, California, United States. He grew up in Brooklyn. His father was a jeweler and his mother worked as a buyer at Macy’s Department Store. He attended the New York City High School of Art and Design, where he studied sculpture.
After graduating from high school, he attended Parsons School of Design, majoring in design and graduating with honors. While at Parsons, he interned with Andy Warhol, who became one of his biggest influences and mentors.
In 1982, he opened his first jewelry store in Santa Monica called Neil Lane Designs. In 1989, he began designing jewelry for celebrities such as Madonna and Cher. In 1990, he designed a jewelry line sold exclusively through QVC, generating $1 million in sales in the first hour.
That same year, he began designing costumes for celebrities appearing on The Bachelor, including Chris Harrison, Emily Maynard, and Arie Luyendyk Jr.

Neil Lane is currently single. Although his work has brought many people together, he is not married. At least, he has never revealed his love life or affairs.

He has also created jewelry for celebrities like Renee Zellweger, Jennifer Hudson and Reese Witherspoon and award shows like the Golden Globes and Oscars. He even created some of the pieces that Prince William and Kate Middleton wore on their wedding day.
In addition to creating jewelry for these celebrities, Neil Lane is also known for creating bespoke designs for each client he works with. For example, one of his clients was a mother who lost her son in an accident.
She wanted a necklace that represented her son’s life. She gave him photos of her son and some of his clothes; then Neil Lane designed a necklace that combined all of these items into one. This necklace became a symbol of love and strength that she wore every day after losing her son.
