Nicky Jam is withdrawing his support for Donald Trump following comedian Tony Hinchcliffe’s racist comments about Puerto Ricans and Latinos during a rally over the weekend.
Nicky took to his Instagram video to announce the withdrawal of his support for Trump as well as say that he won’t be entering politics anytime soon.
“The reason I support Donald Trump is because I believe it is best for the US economy, where many Latinos live… a lot of immigrants are suffering because of the current economic situation, ” he said.
“With [Trump] As a businessman, I felt it was the right step,” Nicky added.
In the video, Nicky went on to say that he “never in his life” thought that a month later, “a comedian would show up criticizing and talking bad about me.” [Puerto Rico].”
“That is why I renounced my support for Donald Trump and withdrew from any political conversation,” Nicky shared. Puerto Rico deserves respect.”
Hinchcliffe was a speaker at Trump’s rally on October 27 when Trump appeared at Madison Square Garden in New York City. During his time there, Hinchcliffe made derogatory comments about Puerto Rico and compared it to “trash”.
“It is true that there is an island of trash floating in the middle of the ocean. I think it was called Puerto Rico,” he said.
The comment was met with a lot of backlash and since then, other music superstars have spoken out about the comment, including Bad Bunny and Ricky Martin.
Previously, Nicky appeared at a Trump campaign rally after being transgendered by Trump for the first time. At the rally, Trump called Nicky a “hot” woman.
“Latin music superstar Nicky Jam. Do you know Nicky? She’s hot!” Trump said at the time.
The Latin music superstar has not commented on that incident and remained silent on his political stance until his recent post.
