early life

Nicole Prascovia Elikolani Valiente was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 29, 1978. Her father, Alfonso Valiente, is of Filipino descent, and her mother, Rosemary Elikolani Frederick, is of Native Hawaiian and Ukrainian descent.

After her parents divorced, Rosemary married German-American Gary Scherzinger, who adopted Nicole, so Rosemary also inherited the Scherzinger surname. She also has a younger sister named Keala.

When Nicole was six, her family moved to Louisville, Kentucky, where her mother worked as a clerk and her stepfather was a welder.

Despite the financial difficulties, Nicole supported her family by working as a waitress, as a local model, and performing at the Kentucky Kingdom theme park.

Influenced by her grandfather, she was raised Catholic. She considers herself conservative, has strong religious beliefs, and often goes to church to commemorate her mother.
