Early life
Nomafrench Mbombo was born on September 6, 1966.
She was born in Mdanysane, East London, South Africa.

Education
After graduating from high school, Nomafrench Mbombo matriculated at the University of Fort Hare where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Immediately after completing her first degree, she went to the University of KwaZulu Natal to complete a master’s degree in maternal and child health.
She eventually went on to pursue her education at the University of the Western Cape and obtained a PhD in Gender and Human Rights.
Career
Nomafrench Mbombo worked in academia before she developed an interest in moving into politics. She was a lecturer in the Department of Community and Health Sciences at the University of the Western Cape. At this point, she was an associate professor, nearing the peak of her career.
Nomafrench Mbombo began her political career at the African National Congress (ANC) before switching to the Democratic Alliance (DA) in 2013. This came after she attended a DA meeting for black professionals.
An active and influential member of the Democratic Alliance, Nomafrench Mbombo was elected to the Western Cape Provincial Parliament in the 8 May 2014 election. Following this successful election, she was sworn in as a Member on 21 May 2014. She represents the Philippi area of the City of Cape Town.
Additionally, in the same year 2014, Prime Minister Helen Zille appointed Nomafrench Mbombo as Minister of Culture and Sport of the Western Cape Province, and she was sworn in on 26 May 2014.
In 2018, Denise Robinson, the incumbent Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance Women’s Network, publicly announced that she was no longer interested in seeking re-election. This prompted Nomafrench Mbombo to express her interest in the position. She ran and was elected at the party’s Federal Congress on 7 April 2018.
In May 2019, Alan Winde became the newly elected Prime Minister. However, shortly after Alan Winde became Prime Minister, he announced that he had retained Nomafrench Mbombo as the Provincial Minister of Health.
In October 2019, following the resignation of Athol Trollip, Nomafrench Mbombo announced her interest in becoming the next interim President of the Federation. But unfortunately, she had a very strong opponent at this time, causing her to lose out to Ivan Meyer.
In December 2020, at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nomafrench Mbombo took social media by storm with photos of her vacation in Limpopo, where people were supposed to be quarantined under government regulations. She was widely criticised for this behaviour, although she justified her actions by saying that she had waited a long time to enjoy such a thing.
On 28 April 2021, Nomafrench Mbombo resigned as Federal Leader of the Democratic Alliance Women’s Network. This decision came after Boginkosi Madikizela resigned as DA provincial leader and Provincial Minister of Transport and Public Works.
