Norm Macdonald was born in Canada in 1959. He grew up with two older brothers, both of whom were teachers. Norm attended high school in Quebec and Ottawa. His older brother Neil later became a journalist for CBC News.
Norm Macdonald’s father served in the Canadian Armed Forces during World War II and helped liberate the Netherlands. Macdonald began his career as a stand-up comedian in Ottawa, and by the mid-1980s, Norm was considered one of Canada’s best comedians.
In 1990, he appeared as a contestant on a show called “Star Search” and secured a job as a writer for the comedy “Roseanne.” Norm Macdonald’s biggest breakthrough came in 1993 when he joined “Saturday Night Live.”
